Feng Shui Effect of Metal

Metal Feng Shui - The Effect to Your Life

The family wall.

In traditional feng shui philosophy this is the eastern sector of your home.  In the more updated, contemporary view of feng shui it will be the wall on the left center of your house (or room) as you stand at the front door or main entrance and look in.

This wall is representative of your roots – the very foundation of you who are.  But more than that, this wall is also a symbol of what you’re willing to become in your life and what you’re willing to give to others who enter your life.  There’s also another The element at work in this area.  And that’s the fact that this area symbolizes as well your willingness to receive the absolute best that life is offering you – especially emotionally.

That sounds like a lot to expect out of one wall.  So where do you begin?

Begin with the essential feng shui element of wood.  Seems appropriate, now doesn’t it?  Wood symbolizes the strength which undergirds your family.  Place all the symbols of wood here:  flowers, even a live tree if you have one.

You can also use this area to display photos of your relatives:  your mom, grandmother and any other photos from that old photo album.  Bring them all out.  These items all display your roots quite nicely. One note of caution, though, don’t display these photos in metal picture frames.

The colors associated with this area are green and black.  Feel free to decorate in these colors her.  Green, according to many of those who study feng shui, holds the vibration of the wood energy of the family life sector.

Black is the natural representation of water, which by the way, nourishes and feeds wood.  The next time you’re shopping look for any type of furniture and home accessories in a black and green motif.  This area is a natural home for them.

You may even want to add a small fountain in this area.  Why stick to the color of water when you can actually, physically add the water to nourish this area.

What NOT to place along
the family wall

Now, for the bad news.  Look at this area.  Do you have any of the following either along this wall or in this area?  Get it out!

Don’t overdue the metal here – even objects that would normally be “feng shui” friendly.  I’m talking about metal bells (which we usually place liberally to disperse the negative qi) as well as trophies made from metal.

Check out those photos of your relatives. Make sure you don’t have the majority of them kept in metal frames.

In the classic feng shui philosophy, metal is believed to disrupt the proper, healthy flow of the family qi in this area.  It’s believed that metal “chops the wood element”.  Makes sense now doesn’t it. You take a metal axe to a tree when you want to chop it down?

You’ll also want to avoid using the color white in this area.  Forget the white linen or the lace or anything else white that you may associate with family history.

If your family wall is located in your utility room or you have a washer and dryer along this wall and can’t move them, then you really need to work at adding articles and colors associated with the wood element.  You also want to heavily accent this area with the colors purple and black as well.

You also want to avoid having the wall painted white.  If you just can’t the color of the wall, here again, add the colors of green and black to the area to offset this white – which of course is the color of metal!  What do you think about a palm try?  Sure, wouldn’t a palm tree in a black pot look nicely in this area? Give it some thought.

You don’t want to have many round shapes in the life sector either.  Keep the shapes as close to the shape of tree trunks as possible (Get it?  Wood.)

So where do you want to begin in sparking this creative side?

Let’s start with the essential element that symbolizes this area:  metal.

One of the most efficient ways to implement metal is to hang photos of your children on the west walls using metal picture frames. Perhaps your west wall is in your kitchen.  You might not want to hang your children’s pictures here, but don’t hesitate to decorate this wall with all kinds of metal utensils and other items.

Metal molds for gelatin would be ideal, as would any large metal utensils that could be decorative would fit the theme nicely.  Use your imagination (your innate creativity, if you will). Think about hanging metal cookie cutters on the wall.  This is especially appropriate if you have some or could buy some in shapes that children would like – animals, perhaps.

White is the feng shui color for metal, so feel free to decorate in white.  You may even want to paint a portion of the wall – if not all of it – white.  Again, if  your kitchen is in the west sector, you’ll definitely want to buy white faucets for the sink as well as white appliances from your coffee maker to your refrigerator!

You may even want to consider buying a set of white dishes for the kitchen.

While you’re decorating the feng shui way, don’t overlook the use of the shape associated with the element of metal, either.  Think round and circles.  You can use anything from round coffee tables to something as simple as cups.  Adding a round throw rug to a room is a quick and easy way to pay respect to the feng shui principles and enhance the qi responsible for creativity and nurturing children.

You may even just want to add one round stool in the room to use as a pedestal or easel for a photo of your children (in a metal frame, of course!)  Round clocks are another easy way to add the qi-enhancing shape into your house in the proper fashion.  Hanging a round, functioning clock – especially if it’s metal – on the west wall goes a long way to helping create qi.

If  you’re decorating for creativity – and children – think fun.  Don’t be afraid to some whimsical objects to your decorating scheme.  After all nothing says children and creativity more than the word “joy!”

And in the twenty-first century, we’ve expanded the idea of fun to include digital equipment.  Feel free to place your entertainment unit on the west wall if that wall is in your living room.  Stack and store your games on this wall.  This would be a great area to keep stuffed animals, toys, dolls – anything that says children.

But don’t limit it to just “children”.  After all, part of this sector goes to nourishing your creativity.  This west life area is the perfect home for your special hobbies and your unique expressions of creativity.  Are you a train enthusiast?  Do you collect either toy trains or do you build models of them.  Well, then bring them out of that closet they’ve been sitting in and show them off. They’ve found a perfect home!

If you’re an artist or a photographer this is where you hang your work – just be sure to hang them in metal frames if at all possible!  If you’re a writer, well, keep your journal here.  Have any books that have been published?  Display them in this area.

Once  you think about the elements that go into the creativity sector of your home, you’ll have no trouble –at least at the outset – of finding objects you already have and moving them west!

Have fun decorating here!  You’ll soon see and feel your creativity qi increasing!
